INFLUENCE OF EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION ON THE LEVEL OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY USAGE BY LIBRARIANS IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN SOUTH SOUTH AND SOUTH-WEST, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study seeks to examine influence of educational qualification on the level usage of information and communication technology by librarians in university libraries in South-South and South-West, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design of correlational form. The population of the study is 512 university librarians from 41 university libraries located in 12 states of the South-South and South-West, Nigeria. Data for the research was collected through the use of the question. T-test was used to answer hypothesis, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for research questions. The results from the study show that librarians in university libraries in the South-South and South-West Nigeria moderately use ICT hardware in university libraries and that there is a significant correlation between the educational qualifications of librarians and the level of ICT hardware usage by them. This implies that educational qualifications of the librarians influence the use of ICT hardware.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION IN LAW LIBRARIANSHIP IN IMO STATE UNIVERSITY OWERRI
Abstract
The study was conducted to examine the interrelationship between law librarianship and information technology application in law librarianship in Imo State University Owerri, South-East, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and used multiple regression analysis for data analyses. Findings show that a significant increase in information technology application, digital library access tools, and digital information access significantly influenced law librarianship in Imo State University. The study recommends that Law librarianship should ensure efficient provision and installation of information and communication technology applications/tools in law libraries for effective supply of library information. The study concludes that Law librarianship is a legal-related specialized profession that combines the practice of the legal profession, providing specialized library services to legal clientele, thus a significant positive increase in information technology application resulted to a significant positive effect in law librarianship in Imo State University Owerri, South-East, Nigeria.

DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICES AND RESOURCE SHARING PREFERENCES IN NIGERIAN LIBRARIES
Abstract
This paper assessed document delivery service and resource sharing in Nigeria libraries. The population comprised 172 participants that were inducted at 7th Conference of Certified Librarians by Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria held in Abuja, 2021.The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. Research questions were answered using frequency, bar charts, percentages and mean. The major findings revealed different document delivery services offered by the respondents in their libraries, such as electronic document delivery and paper. The Finding revealed that electronic document delivery service were more preferable over paper. The results further revealed that librarians are facing numerous challenges towards document delivery service and resources sharing activities such as limited budget, copyright law, economic barrier, network barrier sociological barrier, and technology among others. The study recommended that libraries stakeholders, Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria, National Library of Nigeria, Nigeria Library Association, parent institutions and government should give more support to resources sharing in the libraries, especially in this era of information communication technology for quality service delivery.

APPLICATION OF POPULATION, SAMPLE AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUES FOR EFFECTIVE LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE RESEARCH
Abstract
In conducting a research, it is expected that data be collected from respondents which are carefully selected through the use of most appropriate technique. Therefore, this paper focuses on describing different sampling techniques and their features. The two major sampling techniques, namely: probabilistic and non-probabilistic, were considered. Also, the paper discusses sampling error and approaches in reducing such sampling errors that may affect the credibility of the research findings.

INFLUENCE OF LIBRARY VISITS AND ORIENTATION ON ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS ACQUISITION AMONG LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATES IN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE.
Abstract
The study which makes use of descriptive research design covers the influence of library visits and orientation on acquisition of entrepreneurial skills among Library and information science undergraduate students in University of Nigeria Nsukka. The population comprises 74 students in final year class and the entire population was used as respondents to answer a self-constructed questionnaire. The findings revealed that the impact of library visits and orientation programme in creating awareness for entrepreneurial skills is low compared to other factors, and students did not find it as a practical method of learning entrepreneurial skills. The study recommended that library orientation should serve as an avenue where the LIS undergraduates learn more about the value and importance of librarianship, in order to serve as an eye-opener to what librarianship is all about, so as to help boost their confidence and motivate them to take advantage of the various entrepreneurship services and acquire entrepreneurial skills.

PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDE OF UNDERGRADUATES TOWARDS INNOVATIVE COURSES IN THE LIBRARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM IN SELECTED LIBRARY SCHOOLS IN SOUTH-WEST, NIGERIA.
Abstract
The study was conducted to examine the perception and attitude of undergraduate students towards innovative courses in the library school curriculum in selected library schools in South-west, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design and total enumeration technique was adopted to select 241 undergraduate population of 3 selected library schools in Southwest, Nigeria. Out of 241 copies of questionnaires administered, 229 were returned, collated and found useful for the study. Statistical Packages for Social Sciences software version 20 was used to analysis data using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that the major innovative courses in the library school curriculum are automation and information centre, information structure and system, web publishing, information retrieval technologies, information system and networks, web document management, management of electronic resources and desktop publishing. The findings also revealed that undergraduates displayed a positive perception and attitude towards innovative courses in the library school curriculum. The study recommended that there is need for National Universities Commission (NUC) and Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) to come to round table to harmonize the LIS curriculum benchmarks in line with global practices in order to prepare the LIS graduates for career practice in the 21st Century.

MARKETING STRATEGIES AS CORRELATES OF THE USE OF LIBRARY INFORMATION RESOURCES BY UNDERGRADUATES IN NIGER DELTA UNIVERSITY (NDU), BAYELSA STATE.
Abstract
The study examined marketing strategies and the use of library information resources by undergraduates in Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State. Broadly, the aim of the study was to examine the relationship between the marketing strategies and the use of library information resources by undergraduate students in Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State. Two research objectives and questions were stated to guide the study. Two hypotheses were also formulated. The study employed survey and correlational research design involving a population of 5,836 students of 2019/2020 academic session that registered with the library. A sample of 374 students was used for the study. Marketing Strategies and the Use of Library Information Resources Questionnaire (MSULIRQ) was used to collect data. The research adopted mean and standard deviation as descriptive statistics while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to answer the research questions. The result from the data analysis discloses that user education as a marketing strategy enhanced the use of library information resources by undergraduates in NDU; and print media as a marketing strategy increased the use of library information resources by undergraduates in NDU; there exists a strong positive relationship between user education and the use of library information resources. The researchers recommend among others that library use instructional programmes should be incorporated into both first and second semesters of the academic sessions and should be made an independent credit carrying course under the umbrella of general studies programme.

INFLUENCE OF DIGITAL LIBRARIANSHIP ON LIBRARY SERVICES IN IMO STATE UNIVERSITY LAW LIBRARY, OWERRI,
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine role of digital librarians in law library of Imo State University, Owerri, South-East, Nigeria. in the 21st century. The study adopts the survey research design and used correlation analysis for data analyses and interpretation. Result shows that the correlation coefficients between information navigation implementation, digital knowledge mining, and electronic information services and the dependent variable, law libraries is statistically significant. The study recommends that there should be regular training and workshops for practicing librarians to enhance their acquisition of requisite skills and knowledge required of a digital librarian. The study concludes that both law libraries and librarians play critical role in making their users information literate, thus, bridge the digital divide that exists at local, regional or national levels.

LIBRARY RESOURCES AVAILABILITY AND SECURITY CHALLENGES IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, OYE EKITI LIBRARY, EKITI STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
The aim of the study was to examine Library Resources Availability and Security Challenges in
Federal University, Oye Ekiti Library, Ekiti State Nigeria. The study made use of survey research design in order to collect data directly from the field on the subject matter. The population of the study consisted of 2,709 students of the Faculty of Education, Federal University Oye Ekiti. A simple random technique was used to select 331 students. A structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. Data were analyzed using Simple percentage analysis. The findings of this research revealed that the problem facing the library in the institution were removal of pages of library materials and stealing of library materials. It also observed that the barriers to effective security of library resources in the institution were lack of adequate punishment to serve as deterrent to others and inadequate security personnel to monitor the library. The study revealed that the available library resources in the institution were books and dictionaries and encyclopedias. It was also discovered that the influence of security challenges on library resources as a result of insecurity of FUOYE library resources have reduced the users of the library, because some of the available materials are defaced in FUOYE library. The study concluded that unless some urgent measures are taken by the library, university libraries will continue to live with theft and mutilation of library resources, defacement of library books, late return of borrowed material, noise, and other challenges.

LIBRARY USE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Nigeria is faced with many economic challenges. The Federal Government has identified entrepreneurship education as one of the tools to combat these challenges. This paper, therefore, assess the significant roles played by libraries in the development of entrepreneurship education in the country, as evidenced by related literature. It begins by identifying objectives of entrepreneurship education in Nigeria, as well as importance and history of Entrepreneurship Education in the country. Important roles that use of library plays as identified by the paper are organization and transmission of recorded knowledge relating to the subject matter and also, provision of access to multi-media resources. Furthermore, the paper highlights challenges facing library use in relation to the development of entrepreneurship education in the country and also suggests way forward, which include: adequate funding for provision of related materials; training of library personnel; and corporation among stakeholders involved in entrepreneurship education, among others.

PRESERVATION, CONSERVATION AND SECURITY OF INFORMATION RESOURCES IN NIGER DELTA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY, WILBERFORCE ISLAND, BAYELSA STATE
Abstract
This study focused on Preservation, Conservation and Security of Information Resources in Niger Delta University Library, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Structured questionnaire was used in gathering data from professional, paraprofessional and non-professions in Niger Delta university library. The study population was 96 library staff of the University library. Using census sampling technique, the sample size was the entire population. The data gathered were analysed using frequency count, tables and simple percentages. The study revealed that physical cleaning and dusting, fumigation, binding and photocopying were the major methods of preserving and conserving of the information resources found in the library. Poor funding, lack of preservation policy, book theft, mutilation of library resources especially print resources and inadequate qualified staff and trained personnel were identified as the major challenges of preservation, conservation and security of these information resources. Based on these findings, recommendations were made such as: Library management should take preservation and conservation very seriously, and applying modern ways of surveillance such as surveillance camera, electronic detective and alarm.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND THE CHALLENGE OF INSECURITY: THE LIBRARY PERSPECTIVE FROM BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES, MAKURDI
Abstract
This paper sought to assess the library perspective from Benue State University library and information services on information management and the challenges of insecurity This paper has four research purposes and four research questions. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. The area of the study is Benue State University Library and Information Service, Makurdi. The population of the study was 84 library staff of the library. The instrument used for this study was a structured questionnaire administered personally to the respondents by the researchers. Data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics. Finding of the study revealed that, Malicious or accidental actions from internal staff, viruses, phishing, hacking, denial of service attacks are causes of insecurity in information management. Strategies for enhancing security of information management in the library include taking precautions against theft, inventory control, marks of ownership, guarding against mutilation and vandalism, and protecting materials on exhibit. The study recommended that, all areas of information security risk must be assigned to specific personnel. If there is a public-use computer workstation, someone needs to be responsible for its security. It is also recommended that information security must occupy a non-zero amount of the personnel’s time, allocation devoted to security might be appropriate for the person who manages a software loaning program in a library.

APPLICATION OF BIG DATA IN ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH LIBRARIES: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Abstract
This paper discusses the prospects and challenges of Big Data application in academic and research libraries. It examines the concept of Big Data as an emerging phenomenon in the digital era. It maintains that there is increasing volumes of data creation and distribution across the world by different sources. The paper highlights various components of Big Data that influenced its application in academic and research libraries. It discusses the process of Big Data creation, control, tools and techniques of providing Big Data services for research and development in academic and research libraries. Also, the paper examines challenges that disrupt data service provision such as lack of awareness among librarians, lack of advanced technology facilities, skills gap, issues related to data security, storage and preservation. It concludes by recommending that academic and research libraries should create proper awareness of the current trends in Big Data services, provide advanced technology facilities, bridge the skills gap and provide adequate storage devices that can accommodate large volumes of data for efficient services.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOUTHS’ INFORMATION SOURCES AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT STATUS IN ZAMFARA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study was aimed at establishing the relationship between information sources for the youths in Zamfara State and their empowerment status. The descriptive survey design was used with a questionnaire as the instrument of data collection. The population of the study consisted of youths in Zamfara State, Nigeria from fourteen local government areas. A purposive sampling technique was used to select three accessible Local Government Areas because of the prevailing insecurity situation in the state. A total of 1,144 copies of questionnaires were administered using 8 trained Research Assistants. Out of the total number of questionnaires, 1,122 were returned and found usable, giving a response rate of 98%. The data collected was analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation as well as Frequencies, and Percentages. One alternate hypothesis was tested using chi-square. SPSS (version 20) was used for all computations. The study revealed that the major sources of information for youths in Zamfara State are the Radio, Tv and the internet, while unemployment was found to be high. The study concluded that Government at all levels should establish more functional ICT hubs/internet facilities within the Local Government Areas to avail youths access to the internet for more and improved access to information.

LIBRARIANS’ PERCEPTION OF PLAGIARISM IN SCHOLARLY PUBLICATIONS IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN SOUTH– SOUTH, NIGERIA
Abstract
The studys goal was to determine how university libraries librarians perceived plagiarism in scholarly publication. In line with the studys goals, two research questions and one hypothesis were posed. The study is restricted to academic librarians working in federal, state, and private university libraries in Nigerias South-South area. The study employed a descriptive survey design of the co-relational kind. The total enumeration sample technique was chosen because it enables the study of the full population, which in this case consists of 229 librarians working in university libraries in South-South, Nigeria. The researchers structured questionnaire served as the instrument for gathering data. Both face and content validity tests were performed on the instrument. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The study found that South-South Nigerian university libraries have a high level of librarians perception of plagiarism, and that among the reasons librarians plagiarize are laziness, a lack of ability to express someone elses ideas in their own words, the desire to publish a lot of work quickly, and a lack of understanding of what plagiarism is. It was recommended that university administration create regulations against plagiarism to deter individuals from engaging in it.
